Two Barton County Community College have signed to continue their baseball careers after this spring at Barton County, moving on to NCAA Division I schools.
Glenn Jackson and Nick Derr with both be headed south next fall with Jackson going to the University of Louisiana at Monroe and Derr off to the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.
Jackson will join a teammate from last year at Louisiana Monroe in Brad Bellew. Former Cougar pitching coach Steve Johnson is also at the Monroe as is former Cougar Josh Martinez.
"Monroe is a program that will allow me the opportunity to show my skills from the start," Jackson said of his choice to attend the Southland Conference school. "Plus it's a baseball school, not a football school. Baseball draws the biggest attention."
Last season Jackson hit .413 for the Cougars with 10 triples, 5 homers, and 59 RBI. The speedy outfielder from Canada also set a team record for stolen bases, snagging 40 out of 41 attempts.
Derr was a big contributor from the bullpen last season for the Cougars. The big left-hander appeared in 11 games, posting an ERA of 3.00.
His choice of Little Rock had a lot to do with the warmer climate, according to the Lincoln, Neb. native.
"I love the warmer weather there," Derr said. "I like the smaller school as well. The academic attention with the smaller classes should be greater. Little Rock plays in strong conference and in the non conference we will get to play some Big XII schools."
