Stanford, Field pitching in Major Leagues
Former Barton County Community College pitchers Nate Field and Jason Stanford have joined another former Cougar, David Sanders, as pitchers in the Major Leagues. Field is on his 2nd stint this season with the Kansas City Royals after becoming the 1st Cougar ever to pitch in the Major Leagues last season. Stanford is in his first go-round in the big leagues, pitching for the Cleveland Indians. Sanders is currently with the Chicago White Sox.

Sanders has seen a lot of action this season for the White Sox, since being called up in April. He has appeared in 17 games in relief with a 4.34 ERA. -30- Check out Barton County Baseball Online at www.bartonccc.edu/sports

Field had a stint with the Royals last year before being called up for a while earlier this season. So far Field has been impressive this time around, picking his first big league win on the 4th of July. Field has thrown in three games for the Royals this season in relief, allowing a single run through six innings of work. He has struck out five and currently owns a 1.50 ERA. The lone run Field has given up came in his first stint up with the Royals, back on June 14. Since his recall, he as pitched twice, throwing five innings of scoreless baseball. He picked up the win in Detroit on the 4th of the July, tossing 1 1/3 innings, striking out two, and not allowing any baserunners for his first win in the majors.
Stanford has spent most of the last two seasons throwing for the Buffalo Bison, the AAA affiliate of the Indians. He made his major league debut on Sunday, starting at Minnesota. Stanford pitched five innings, allowing two hits, four walks, and two runs. The Indians trailed 2-1 when Stanford left the contest, but rallied for a 5-3 win in 10 innings. During his time in Buffalo this season as a starter, Stanford was 7-2 with 3.45 ERA. He was 3rd in the International League with 74 strike outs. Stanford was selected to pitch in the IL All-Star game this year before his call up the Indians. He was 11-3 in two seasons with Buffalo.
