Ryan was a four-year starter and four-year letter winner at Lakeland High School in Lowrey, Missouri. He had a 9-1 record to go along with a 2.01 ERA wrapping up a successful senior campaign. Wagner also went 5-2 his junior season. He received All Conference and All State honors his junior and senior seasons.
