Sanders called up to White Sox for pennant run
Former Barton County Community College baseball player David Sanders is back in the big leagues. Sanders was called up to the Chicago White Sox when the major league teams were allowed to expand their roster to 40 players. Sanders was 4-2 during 57 appearances out of the bull pen for the AAA affiliate Charlotte Knights.

Sanders will be making his 3rd appearance with the White Sox the past 3 seasons. Sanders, a left-hander, had a 3.02 ERA at Charlotte and limited left-handed batters to a .216 average. He allowed just 22 earned runs in nearly 66 innings of work.

Elsewhere in pro baseball for former Cougars, Nate Field is still throwing in AAA Omaha as the Omaha Royals are chasing down a Pacific Coast League title The Royals are 1 game back with 4 games left in the regular season. The Kansas City Royals have not expanded its roster yet.

Jason Stanford is now throwing for the Cleveland Indians AAA team in Buffalo. Stanford, throwing in rehab for Tommy John surgery, has worked his way up the highest minor league level and could be called up to the Indians soon. Cleveland is currently in the middle of the pennant race as well. While in AA Akron, Stanford appeared in 8 games, throwing 14 2/3 innings of relief. The left-hander was 2-0 with a 2.45 ERA with 15 strikeouts and just 4 walks. Stanford has thrown twice in Buffalo, starting for the 1st time in his minor league rehab. He has thrown 4 innings, striking out 4 with an ERA of 2.25. Buffalo currently lead the International League North and will make the playoffs.

Ryan Phillips is still having a great season for the Lowell Spinners in the Rookie Baseball for the Boston Red Sox. Phillips is currently 6-1 with a 1.82 ERA in 12 starts. He has 52 strikeouts in 59 1/3 innings of work. During the New York-Penn League All-Star game Phillips threw 2 innings of shutout baseball. Phillips is 2nd in the New York-Penn League in ERA, 5th in wins, and in the Top 25 in strikeouts.
