Park City still alive in NBC; underdogs knock off another heavyweight
The Park City Cowboys just won't go away. The final team invited to the National Baseball Congress World Series is now one of the final 6 teams playing after posting another upset during prime time Wednesday night. For the 4th time in the tournament, the Cowboys, which feature 4 current Barton County Community College players and one former player, won a 1-run game or an extra inning affair. The Cowboys knocked off Nevada (Mo.) by a 7-4 score in 10 innings to move on to face Prairie Gravel (Ill) in another elimination contest.

Things didn't look good for Park City, trailing 2-1 heading into the top of the 9th inning. But the Cowboys came through with 3 runs in the inning to take a 4-2 lead on the Griffons. Brent Biggs, a sophomore for Barton, was instrumental in the inning, getting hit by an 0-2 pitch with 2 outs in the inning to load the bases. That was followed by a walk and a single and the Cowboys suddenly had a 4-2 lead.

That was short-lived, though, as Nevada scored 2 in the bottom of the inning to send the game to extra frames. In the top of the 10th Park City once again score 3 times to secure the win. Former Butler County Grizzlies Mark McBratney tripled in 2 runs in the inning – including former Cougar Mark Stoltz – and later scored to make it 7-4.

Biggs ended the game 0-for-4 but with the all important hit by pitch while Stoltz went 2-for-4 with 2 runs scored.
