Barton Baseball winds down regular season, finale events set for Sunday

Twenty eight games gone on the conference schedule but none are more important now for the Barton Community College baseball team than upcoming four games left in the regular season.  In a tight Jayhawk West race, the 14-14 Cougars find themselves in sixth place but only one game out of third heading into this weekend's finale against the 19-9 first place Saints of Seward County Community College.   With Seward needing two wins to secure a share of the Jayhawk West title and the Cougars vying for a top four finish, high stakes will be on the line as the teams square off in a pair of 1:00 p.m. doubleheaders on Saturday and Sunday at Lawson-Biggs Field.

In conjunction of Sunday's regular season finale, a pre-game cookout is scheduled to precede a special recognition ceremony taking place prior to the 1:00 p.m. first pitch.   With free admission to each Barton baseball game, the public is invited to a pre-game cookout from noon-1:00 p.m. with a $5 suggested donation going towards support of Cougar Baseball.   Following the cookout and prior to first pitch, the Cougars will recognize the Rob and Kelly Bowman family and other supporters for their contributions to the newly constructed Bowman Family Press Box.

Barton, 24-23 on the season, are coming off a series split with Pratt Community College earlier in the week looking to finish above .500 in conference play and amongst the top four for the first time since the 2011 season.   Coming to Great Bend as the hottest team in the Jayhawk West, the 30-20 Saints have swept its last two conference opponents including most recently Butler Community College in trying to live up to the West's preseason top pick prediction.
