The Barton County Community College men's basketball team opened its 2002-03 campaign with an easy win Thursday night, rolling over Lee College (Texas), 88-62 at the Ozark Medical Tip Off Classic in West Plains, Mo.
In the other opening round contest, host Southwest Missouri State - West Plains upset No. 29 Motlow College (Tenn.), 106-84.
Highlights
The contest was close for the first half as Barton took a 35-31 lead into halftime. Sophomore guard Randy Pulley led the No. 1 ranked Cougars in the opening half, scoring 12 of his game-high 19 points in the opening 20 minutes.
In the second half, the Cougars pulled away, putting 53 points on the board for the 26-point win. Sophomore Robert Whaley paced the Cougars in the second half, scoring 10 of his 16 points in the half.
Pulley and Whaley were joined in double figures by Junction City freshman Justin Rose with 13 points and sophomore guard Stan King with 10. Joe Thompson led Lee College with 15 points.

Barton will take on the host SMS-West Plains tonight in a 7 p.m. contest before wrapping up play in West Plains Saturday against Motlow at 5 p.m.
