The Barton Community College wrestling team returned after a twenty day holiday break to the competitive mat Saturday in Fremont, Nebraska, participating in the in the Viking-Warrior Open hosted by Midland University. The No. 18 Cougars had eleven wrestlers finish 6-22 in their last Open event serving as a final tune-up for the dual portion of their 2016-17 schedule. Barton will next travel to Fort Wayne, Indiana, to compete in the NJCAA National Duals taking placing January 5-6.
The No. 18 ranked Barton Community College Wrestling team closed out the fall semester of the schedule Saturday traveling to Crete, Nebraska, for the Doane University Open.
The Barton Community College Wrestling team competed Saturday in the always tough Bob Smith Open hosted annually by Fort Hays State University in Hays, Kansas. Fourteen Cougars took the mat finishing 15-28 in the one day nearly 400 athlete event consisting of teams from the NCAA Division I, II, NAIA, and junior college levels.
The Barton Community College Wrestling team competed in its second open tournament of the season taking to Kearney, Nebraska, on Saturday for the one-day UNK Holiday Inn Open. Going 9-3 in the 285 pound weight class, the Cougars finished the tournament 29-31 against a field of over 500 wrestlers from teams on the NCAA Division I, II, NAIA, and junior college levels.
Coming off an inaugural season of finishing as the No. 15 ranked team in the nation, the Barton Community College Wrestling program began its second season of competition capturing two individual titles Sunday in the Dan Harris Open at Baker University in Baldwin City, Kansas. The Cougars finished the one-day event 35-27 adding two runner-up, a third place, and a pair of fourth places competing against fellow junior college competitors, as well as, competition from the NCAA Division II and NAIA levels.
