Cougar wrestling opens Atchison trip 1-3, turns attention to Saturday's Service Salute Open
The Barton Community College wrestling team wrapped up the first leg of its two-day trip to Atchison, Kansas, on Friday, competing at the Loosbrock Duals and posting a 1-3 record against a mixed field of NCAA Division II, NAIA, and NJCAA programs.
Facing NCAA Division II Quincy University, NJCAA member Otero Junior College, and NAIA foes Benedictine College and Hastings College, the Cougars' lone victory came in convincing fashion with a 43-13 rout over Otero. Barton fell to Quincy (52-0), Benedictine (33-20), and Hastings (33-24) in the remaining duals.
Individually, Shane Todd (133-pounds), Brennen Pfannenstiel (149), and S'Ron Hill (184) each led the Cougar lineup with three victories apiece, while Brody Schnoebelen (197) added a pair of wins on the day. Derek Truman (174), Julian Orrantia (125), Clayton Considine, and Logan Buchanan (285) also contributed with one victory each.
The Cougars will have a quick turnaround, closing out the weekend Saturday at 9:00 a.m. competing in the Service Salute Open, also held in Atchison.
