Barton's Hassnaoui becomes two-time national women's indoor track and field athlete of the week #GoBarton

For the second consecutive week, Sanae Hassnaoui of the nationally No. 3 ranked Barton Community College women's track and field team has been named the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Indoor Women's Athlete of the Week.

It's the third straight national honor for the program as Hassnaoui's pair of distinction follows men's thrower Christopher Young's distinction in week one.

Participating this past weekend at the New Mexico Team Open in Albuquerque, the freshman from Morocco met the national meet qualifications in her third different event by adding the 800m to her list with a program's 5th fastest time ever of 2:10.02. Placing third in the event behind a pair of four-year institution competitors, Hassnaoui's time leads the junior college season list and ranks 8th all-time on the NJCAA's indoor list.

In her collegiate debut weekend in Texas, Hassnaoui won the 1000m in a program 6th best 2:25.76 to currently ranked second on the national season best list. Hassnaoui followed that performance one week later to not only win the mile event at the Washburn Rust Buster by fourteen seconds of the 104-competitor field, but did so in a program second best and nation leading time of 4:51.25 to additionally rank as the NJCAA's 7th best all-time and fastest since 2018.

As a limited squad of Cougars compete Friday and Saturday at the Washburn Open and Multis, Hassnaoui will take the week off from competition before rejoining her fellow teammates February 9-10 in the Tyson Invitational held in Fayetteville, Arkansas.

Hassnaoui's national USTFCCCA awards join the efforts from T'Nia Riley (2019) and Ayesha Champagnie (2016) to earn the weekly national indoor award on the women's side of the program.
